Empire is back, and better than ever. This hip-hop drama stunned everyone last season with whole lot of crazy, but it sophomore season is even crazier than ever, and I can not wait to keep you guys up with the 411 on all things Empire.
The second season opens with the Lyon family(except Lucious who is in jail) staging a Free Lucious Concert. Cookie hams it up in a cage, wearing a gorilla suit, before delivering a passionate speech about Black Lives Matter. Cookie did not do it for Lucious actually, it was a way to impress investor Mimi Whiteman (Marisa Tomei), and then use her money to stage a hostile takeover. Cookie, Hakeem, Andre and Anika thought they’d managed to lock down a hostile takeover of Empire Entertainment using $250 million from Mimi. But despite an aggressive courtship that included Anika sleeping with Mimi, Mimi turned sides because she got a better deal from Lucious and Jamal. The best part? Lucious video-called into the meeting and mused, "Game over, bitches." You should have seen the look on Cookie's face.
We get a peak at Lucious in Jail, and he creates his own gang. Everything is all well until Frank Gathers( Chris Rock) shows up, the drug dealer Cookie snitched on, and it only took about five seconds before he convinced Cookie's cousin to sell her out. Frank sends Cookie an actual head in the mail that might have been her cousin's. Cookie rallies the whole family up at Lucious's house. She visits Lucious in jail for protection, and besides their beef he comes through. Gathers thought he had power in the prison, and was ready to have his gang kill Lucious they all turned on Gathers and killed him.
The episode ends with Jamal kicking everyone out of Lucious's house, shelving Hakeem’s record, and frozing out his beloved mother — leading her to slap his face not once, but twice, and express her deepest fear of him turning into his father.
Empire is getting good, and I can not wait till next week. So make sure you come back here for more Empire news.
